Professional History

From a young age, I found joy in teaching—coaching my younger sibling, organizing makeshift classrooms, and reading aloud to anyone who would listen. That passion grew into a career centered on supporting literacy growth for both students and educators.
After earning my Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education and later a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas, I began my career as a classroom teacher and quickly moved into instructional leadership roles. Over the past two decades, I’ve served as a literacy coach, writing coordinator, curriculum designer, and K–5 Literacy Coordinator for a large district in Texas. In my current role, I lead district-wide implementation of structured literacy, develop curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading, and mentor educators as they deepen their practice.
My experiences led me to found The Literacy Ladies, where I lead the tutoring side of the business. Working directly with students each week is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. It brings me joy to witness their growth and confidence as readers and writers. These hands-on experiences continually inform my understanding of effective literacy instruction and keep me grounded in the realities of what students need to thrive.
As a certified EC–8 educator with an ESL endorsement, I bring a broad perspective to my work, always striving to meet the diverse needs of learners through responsive, inclusive teaching. In addition to my district role, I also provide professional development for Reading Horizons, supporting educators in implementing evidence-based phonics instruction.
This year, a lifelong dream of becoming a published author will come true—a milestone that reflects my deep commitment to literacy, access, and student voice.
It’s a true honor to now collaborate with Jennifer Serravallo. Her work has long influenced my own, and I’m thrilled to be part of a team so deeply dedicated to empowering educators and advancing literacy for all learners.
